Environmental Events
We run popular events in West Yorkshire. We provide useful, practical information and excellent networking.
Last year we had 35 different speakers at 9 separate events. In total, more than 450 people attended.
We attract high profile speakers from the private sector and government initiatives and offer opportunities to see best practice in action.

12 March: Legal Update: Green Deal & Recent Regs Reminders
Come along to BBEF’s annual legal regulations briefing to
- make sure you are up to speed and stay on the right side of the law
- avoid prosecution
- sail through audit scrutiny
- are ready to seize opportunities in the new Green Deal
ECUS are experts in environmental regulations. Their senior consultant, Yvonne Rowse will run through key pieces of environmental legislation, placing a special focus on regulations that are commonly misunderstood or confusing.
She will give us simple legal ‘dos and don’ts’ and tips on practical, day-to-day management of environmental regulations.
We will also place a special focus on 2 pieces of recent legislation:
2011 Waste Regs: Are you complying? A quick review of the regs plus a quick run-down of what you need to do to comply
The Green Deal: As introduced by the Energy Act 2011, the Green Deal will ‘revolutionise’ the energy efficiency of property by eliminating the need to pay upfront for energy efficiency measures - the cost of the measures should be covered by savings on the electricity bill.
Jenny Lawson from Enterprise Europe Yorkshire will also come along to give us a preview of what legislation is on the horizon and about to sweep in from the EU:
- Revisions to the WEEE Directive
- Steps to tighten controls on water pollution
- The latest on chemicals (REACH)and biocides
- New rules on when a waste is not a waste
Jenny will also be on hand to answer questions on the new EU definition of CSR and action on nanomaterials.

15th March: Climate Change. Business Risk, Business Opportunity?
Climate change is happening – the scientific community are agreed on this. Evidence that we are changing the earth’s climate on a global level is overwhelming.
If you want to debate this statement, don’t come to this event. If you agree that climate change is likely (or possible) and want to know how this might affect you, then do.
Climate change will create disruptions for businesses; and new opportunities.
Wetter winters; warmer summers – a two or three degrees centigrade increase in temperature in the UK sounds quite minor.
If you sell air conditioning or ice cream, you’re likely to think it’s good news. But your business HQ is on a flood plain, you might not be so pleased.
Changes in other parts of the world where you have suppliers or buyers will also impact on your business.
WSP Environmental are specialists in climate change risk. They have produced studies on the likely impact of climate change for a range of different businesses; both large and small.
At this event, they will share some of their findings. You will leave with an idea of what climate change might mean for you.
